Russian Art Festival

Art studio Sergey Konstantinov.
Art studio designing and producing classical and contemporary murals, restoration & conservation decorative arts, painting & sculpture. Fine art gallery.

In conjunction with the artMRKT San Francisco international art fair, Arttitud presents Russian Art Festival, an exhibition featuring fine art in traditional and contemporary styles by a select group of Russian and Eastern European-born and trained artists. Curated by Tatiana Takaeva, these critically acclaimed artists have shown their work internationally and include among their accomplishments considerable museum exposure, significant commissions, and placements in numerous collections both domestically and abroad. In addition to the art, visitors will also have opportunities to experience and enjoy a variety of Russian entertainment.

Participating artists include Sergey Konstantinov whose subject matters range from classic representational to innovative abstracts, Aleksey Vladimirov whose sculptures are in museums and private collections throughout Europe, Valery Vershov who is recognized for his complex paintings of luxurious interiors populated with creatures and characters that render the totalities surreal and entertainingly absurd, and Victoria Kovalenchikova whose unique architectural perspectives give viewers a glimpse into mysterious alternative worlds. This is a rare opportunity to meet and mingle with these creative talents, and to immerse yourself in a wondrous cross-cultural adventure.

Konstantinov has had his works in major collections and exhibitions in Europe and North America since the mid 1980s. Some of his more impressive commissioned work in recent years has been for Suzanne Tucker and also the Getty Family. Equally astounding with figurative, abstract and historically-flavored styles of work, Konstantinov's brushwork knows no boundaries, with recent forays into photoshop-powered printmaking showing yet another facet of his bold artistic vision and personality.

Painting Bookshelves. Ann Getty House Collection.

Paintings Bookshelves. Artist Sergey Konstantinov.

The creative proposal for this painting originated from Ann Getty, who desired a painting of a bookshelf. I designed a composition of two bookshelves side-by-side in a diptych style. Each bookshelf is divided into four parts, exhibiting disciplines of the humanities: theatre, literature, and art. The masks displayed at the top shelves are recognized as a symbol of theatre and drama, and originate from Greek mythology. I sketched the masks to determine the placement of the comedy and tragedy character. Old but precious books line the middle shelves, with each book presenting a title of Getty’s favorite author. The delicate art of blue and white Porcelain Delft pottery is displayed below the literary works.

Chancellor Hotel. Art Conservation & Restoration Mural. San Francisco.
The rooms' interior is reminiscent of an airplane and boasts an aerial panoramic photo of San Francisco as it was in 1935.
For over 80 years, the Chancellor Hotel has been a fixture on Union Square. Built for the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915, it was the tallest building in San Francisco when it opened for business in 1914.

Painting. Artist Sergey Konstantinov. Exhibition About Face. Jewish Museum San Francisco USA. 1993.

I was born in the Ukraine in 1958. My expertise, experience, and vast knowledge with fine art is based on a very strong and solid foundation. In 1978, after studying painting and sculpture from 1974 to 1978, I decided to become an artist while attending Art College in Vizhnicya in the Ukraine. In 1980, I attended the Academy of Art in Lvov in the Ukraine where I continued my studies in painting and sculpture. I received my Masters Degree in fine art in 1985. My works have been publicized, displayed, and shown, either solo or in group exhibitions from 1983 to the present time. I moved to San Francisco in 1991 where I continue to follow my passion for art that consists of creation, restoration, and conservation of fine art pieces. I carefully inspect and study works of art in museums whenever possible to analyze and capture the essence of masterpieces. This process allows me to better estimate and supervise the quality and application of my own work. My inspiration from great art is mostly academic from an artists view point. Painting for me is a life force which resides in me and is a very exciting and fulfilling part of my spirit. Every element in my paintings should always be in fine harmony with full structure before I can consider it as being successful. My art creates itself through me, surrendering to a process which involves powerful visions that are developed and expressed through me in paint.
